About HJCI

A living history, shared across generations.

Hollywood Japanese Cultural Institute preserves, shares, and promotes Japanese and Japanese American culture and heritage through education, cultural programs, and activities.

Roots and continuity

From language school to cultural institute.

The original Social Hall was built for the Japanese language school in 1936. After wartime removal interrupted community life, the property returned to community stewardship and the Hollywood Japanese Community Center was formed in 1947.
